Found a pet and have no idea how to get reunite them with their owner? That’s why we created this easy to follow guide on what to do if you find a lost dog (scroll down for a simple infographic).

 

1. Check if the dog has an ID tag or collar

If they do have a collar or ID tag with contact details, use it to get in touch with the owner.

 

2. Post on social media lost & found groups

Find your local lost and found pet group on Facebook, and then post a picture of the found pet, where you found them and any other useful information. You can find your local lost and found group here.

 

3. List the dog on Pet Net ID Lost & Found

Register the found pet on Australia’s Pet Net ID Lost & Found Network here.

 

4. Get their microchipped scanned

Take the dog to your local council pound, shelter or veterinary clinic to get them scanned for a microchip. Find a list of your local animal shelters and council pounds here.

 

5. Post found dog posters in your area

Put up found pet posters in your local neighbourhood. Include a clear photo and a note stating where you left the dog, whether it be at the council pound, animal shelter or vet.
