To make sure your new adopted dog is healthy, happy and safe, here is a checklist of all the essentials you’ll need to:

 

Health

  • Desexing – they may already be desexed, desexing provides various health and behavioural benefits
  • Veterinary check ups – annual check ups, plus whenever your dog is ill or injured
  • Vaccinations – important to protect them against various diseases
  • Heart worm treatment – to protect them against heart worm diseases
  • Flea and tick treatment – to protect them against fleas and ticks

 

Safety

  • Microchip – with up to date contact details
  • Collar with ID tag – always on them and with your current contact details
  • Lead – to walk them safely in a controlled manner
  • Bedding – warm, comfy and clean
  • Shelter – weatherproof, providing protection from the sun, rain and wind
  • Tall, secure fencing – to make sure your dog is safe and won’t escape
  • Car harness or a crate – for safety when driving

 

Items

  • Food and bowls – highly nutritious and balanced diet
  • Water and bowls – clean and fresh water always available
  • Toys and stimulation – for fun, mental stimulation and prevent boredom
  • Grooming products (brush, nail clippers, dog shampoo etc) – to keep coat silky and healthy
